Facebook to Release Simpler Privacy Controls

- In response to outcry
from users, privacy advocates and lawmakers, Facebook on Wednesday announced a
redesign of its Privacy Settings that it says will "make it simpler for people to
control how public or private they want to be through Facebook." The new
settings include a single interface where users can control who can see their
content, as well as a reduction in the amount of basic information that must be
visible to everyone, and the ability for users to turn off all applications

Twitter Bans Third-Party Ad Networks

San Francisco
- In the wake of launching its first comprehensive ad platform in the form of
Promoted Tweets, Twitter has announced that will no longer allow any third
party ad networks on the service. Chief operating officer Dick Costolo wrote in
a blog post that "third party ad networks are not necessarily looking to
preserve the unique user experience Twitter has created. They may optimize for
either market share or short-term revenue at the expense of the long-term
